  1. Among the best detachable-blade, rotary motor clippers

Many favor the legendary Oster Classic 76 & Model 10. Barbers & stylists still enjoy using Andis detachable-blade clippers. Over the past few years I've developed a preference for Wahl's alternatives, namely the 5-Star Rapid Fire &, recently, 5-Star Mentor. The Mentor is quieter (in fact, the quietest clipper I've used, about as quiet as a good trimmer, perhaps) but has 2 motor speeds (minor con) rather than high variability. Maintenance for both clippers is low, as long as they are handled with care. The Mentor's maintenance requirements seem non-existent so far. The clipper has the longest cord I've seen yet; it can be a nuisance depending on one's situation. But too long is better than too short. The clipper cuts cleanly & quickly on the first setting; I have not yet used the second (it would be great for removing long &/or thick hair). 4 detachable blades are included, all very useful for fading. The blades must be adjusted, unfortunately, but that wasn't too frustrating. Get a balding blade with ceramic cutter & this becomes the ultimate buzz cut machine. For universal use, get blades #2 & up, preferably with ceramic cutters. Guide combs I've tested don't fit on any of the included blades. The Mentor stays cool but the blade combs get hot within a few minutes of cutting. The included blade brush is great. No blade guard, unfortunately. Lightweight clipper. Made in Hungary. Oil your blades & detach/attach them properly. On this clipper, similar to the Rapid Fire, press the button, pull down the blades, release the button & slide the blades off of the tongue. To attach, slide the tongue under the bar, turn on the clipper & snap the blades on. Great product from Wahl, many are missing out. Although, cordless clippers are the most sought after lately (I don't mind old-school).
